ESPN’s Sportscenter sent Bob Ley down to Cuba to report live from Havana.
While Ley was reporting the results of the game between the Tampa Rays and Cuba’s National Team, he was interrupted on the set by a political protester, who began throwing pamphlets in the air and spreading his message over the airwaves.
Ley tried to push the protester out of view, but it was to no avail and he would get out of the way immediately and send the feed back to the game.
The protester and a companion were arrested by Castro’s police a few minutes after the incident, broadcast live around the woorld.
The violent arrest minutes later by Castro’s goons:
The Obama-Castro press conference in Havana was a bad joke. Obama welcomed Raul Castro’s criticism about human rights in the US! Incredible but true.
It was a sad spectacle to see Barack Obama, standing like a statue, being lectured about human rights by a criminal dictator who has been oppressing, torturing and murdering his own people for 57 years!
I had to go vomit and couldn’t watch the end, but I’m sure didn’t miss much.
Here is the criminal who lectured Barack Obama today about human rights, preparing to murder a campesino in the Sierra Maestra:
White House officials would not tell NBC News Friday whether President Obama will raise the issue of 70 fugitives from U.S. justice — including convicted cop-killer JoAnne Chesimard — who are hiding in Cuba when he meets Cuban leaders during his upcoming historic visit to the island.
A White House official did say, however, that the “United States continued to seek the return from Cuba of fugitives from U.S. justice and has repeatedly raised those cases with the Cuban government.”
Chesimard, who fled to Cuba in 1984 after escaping from a New Jersey prison in 1979, was convicted of the 1973 execution-style murder of New Jersey State Trooper Werner Foerster. She is on the FBI’s Most Wanted International Terrorists list, and is the most notorious of a group of criminals and violent radicals who have sought refuge in Cuba since Fidel Castro took power.
Other fugitives include Willie Morales, who blew off his own hands while making bombs for a Puerto Rican independence group, and Victor Manuel Gerena, the alleged “inside man” in a $7 million armored car robbery.
The New Jersey State Police and the FBI have offered a $2 million reward for the capture of Chesimard. The Foerster family declined to comment, but Col. Rick Fuentes, the superintendent of the New Jersey State Police, said his agency feels Foerster’s murder and Chesimard’s escape on a “very personal level.”
“She flew from justice,” he said, “and that reopened a wound that was created by the original homicide. We can’t and we won’t create the impression that once you flee the country that we’re going to stop looking for you.”
JoAnne Chesimard was born JoAnne Byron in New York in 1947. She grew up in New York City and North Carolina, and became involved in black nationalist politics in the late 1960s. She became a Black Panther, then left the Panthers, changed her name to Assata Shakur, and joined the Black Liberation Army.
She was shot in the stomach in 1971 when she allegedly tried to rob a guest at a Manhattan hotel. She was sought for questioning after a bank robbery later that year, and named as a suspect in a grenade attack on police in December. She was also wanted for questioning after the wounding of a police officer, a bank robbery and a church robbery in 1972, and was suspected of links to the murders of several New York police officers. She was later acquitted of kidnaping and robbery charges, while other charges were dismissed.
On Sunday, President Obama will touch down in Cuba for what promises to be one of the most disgraceful trips ever taken by a U.S. president anywhere in the world. This is an Obama presidential trip whose ultimate results will be giving away legitimacy and money to an anti-American regime that actively undermines our national security interests and acts against our values every single day. President Obama’s entourage will sleep in hotels controlled by the Cuban military that were confiscated by the regime and are among the $7 billion in unpaid legal claims owed to American property owners. When President Obama arrives in Havana on Sunday, he will visit Catholic Church sights and church officials, yet he’s inexplicably expected to skip St. Rita Church, where the Ladies In White have shed much blood and received routine beatings at the hands of the Castro regime for simply demanding their loved ones’ freedom.
On Monday, President Obama will showcase the most damaging part of his Cuba policy: the lawless, one-sided weakening of the LIBERTAD Act that seeks to enrich American businesses and the Castro regime’s police state, without any concessions from Cuba that lead to greater freedoms for the Cuban people. The Obama-Castro state dinner promises to be another low point of this visit, one that I fully expect will be attended by some of the Castro regime’s biggest low-lifes who will seek to exploit this opportunity to mock this president, his administration and the American people.
On Tuesday, the irony should not be lost on anyone that President Obama will be giving a speech at yet another property confiscated by the Castro regime. President Obama’s decision to end his trip at a baseball game is a fitting symbol of this trip and of his entire Cuba policy: he thinks this is a game. What’s not a game is the repression, intimidation and exploitation Cuba’s baseball players face and that has led to many of them defecting the first chance they get, and that would probably lead some of them, should they be able to meet and speak freely with President Obama, to ask him directly for asylum and a flight to freedom on Air Force One.
As a whole, President Obama’s trip to Cuba and his policy of one-sided concessions to this regime are as naïve as his world view and as misguided as his foreign policy affecting other parts of the world. America should be standing with our allies and democracy advocates around the world, not embracing, enriching and empowering our enemies, the way President Obama is about to do in Cuba.
A tragedy at sea after a group of Cuban migrants died trying to make the treacherous journey to Florida, Miami Herald news partner CBS4 reported.
According to the U.S. Coast Guard, a total of 18 reported Cuban migrants were picked up by Royal Caribbean’s Brilliance of the Seas.
The cruise ship spotted them Friday morning just west of Marco Island on its way to Cozumel, Mexico.
The refugees were suffering from severe dehydration.
The group said they started the journey 22 days ago with nine more people, all of whom died along the way.
“Our deepest condolences to the families of the nine people who recently did lose their lives,” said Capt. Mark Gordon, chief of enforcement for the Coast Guard 7th District. “Unfortunately, tragedy is all too common when taking to the sea in homemade vessels with no safety or navigation equipment. The dangerous waters of the Florida Straits can be unforgiving for the unprepared on ill advised and illegal voyages. Immigration policies have not changed and we urge people not to take to the ocean in un-seaworthy vessels. It is illegal and extremely dangerous.”
Coast Guard officials said there’s been a steady increase of Cuban rafters since the U.S. and Cuba started normalizing relations.
